Some of the most important Hindu festivals with their dates in the year 2020 are

  1. Holi is celebrated in the month of March. People go round their neighbourhood with packets of colours and apply them to each others’ cheeks, which is a form of wishing Happy Holi. This festival will be celebrated between 9th-10th March in the year 2020. Holika Dahan is done one day before the main celebration.
  2. Navratri is a festival which is celebrated for nine days two times a year. This festival marks the worship of goddess Durga for her bravery and power. During these days, girls are looked upon as avatars of Maa Durga and worshipped with devotion and love. Navratri will start on 17th October and end on 25th October in the year 2020.
  3. Diwali is the most important festival celebrated by Hindus. This day is considered very auspicious when it comes to starting a new task or project. Praying on this day during the shubh muhurat provides with wealth, happiness and prosperity. Diwali will be observed on 14th November 2020.
  4. Raksha Bandhan is the festival of brothers and sisters celebrating their amazing bond. As per the ritual, the sister ties a Raksha dhaga or rakhi on the ankle of her brother and prays for his longevity and safety. The brother thanks the sister by giving her money or gifts and vows to protect her forever. In the year 2020, this festival will be celebrated on 3rd August.
  5. Shivratri is the day when Lord Shiva’s birthday is celebrated in all parts of India by the Hindus. Huge commotion and pujas are conducted on this day to praise the Almighty. This festival will be celebrated on 21st February in the year 2020.
  6. Hanuman Jayanti is the day when Lord Hanuman was born and observed as an auspicious day by the Hindus. Hanuman Jayanti will be celebrated on 8th April in the year 2020.
  7. Ganesh Chaturthi commemorates the birth of the son of Lord Shiva, Lord Ganesha. On this day, Lord Ganesha’s favourite food which is modak (laddus) is prepared in every household. This festival will be celebrated in the year 2020 on 22nd August.
